Statistics Canada released information finally sheds some light on the issue.As it turns out, the percentage of homes owned by non-residents in Toronto and Vancouver is actually much lower than previously thought — just 3.4 percent in Toronto and 4.8 percent in Vancouver,defying the notion that non-residents are rapidly buying up luxury property in both cities.The data is a result of a collaborative project between Statistics Canada & the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and comes just 8 months after the Ontario government imposed a 15 % tax on foreign buyers of Toronto property — a move that seems to have rattled the housing market, successfully taming home prices.

Court rules Toronto Real Estate Board must make detailed home prices public
A Federal Court of Appeal has upheld an April 2016 decision by Canada’s Competition Tribunal that ordered the Toronto Real Estate Board to allow its members to share the sales histories of listed properties online. With this Decision
Toronto-area home owners and house-hunters are one step closer to being able to find out online how much the house down the street sold for without meeting personally with a real estate agent.
TREB says it will appeal the decision and ask the Supreme Court of Canada to stay the tribunal order that the new rules take effect immediately.
TREB wants that information to be disclosed directly by realtors to their clients.
